  :: MindModeler™ Introduction

MindModeler™- A tool to capture and preserve the intellectual capital of skilled organizational knowledge workers

Experts, in various walks of life, make decisions based on judgment, gut-feel, and intuition, because they can draw upon years of hands-on learning and past experiences. Such experts are precious intellectual assets of an organization, and when they leave, the organization is drained of decades of experience. To date, there have been no computer-based methods to quantify and retain this type of judgmental knowledge. Existing techniques, such as rule-based expert systems, only retain brittle perceptions of the experts, not their expertise. Also, they are very expensive and require months or even years to build.

We have developed a unique computer environment, based on patent pending advances in artificial intelligence, which for the first time captures and retains this judgmental type of expert knowledge in a computer. With this system, called MindModeler, the process of eliciting knowledge from an expert and computerizing it takes no more than days. The resulting model of the expert's judgment is very easy to use because of the highly intuitive and visual nature of the computer interface. The expert himself can use the computer repository as a personal assistant, or others can use it in the organization to benefit from the expert's thinking. It can also be used as a simulator for exploring options and for training inexperienced personnel. Tests of the MindModeler tool using many different types of experts, from physicians to data base tuners, have shown it to be robust and easy to use.

Because organizations employ many experts that make judgment-based decisions across various departments, they can benefit enormously from this invention. When those experts retire or leave, their departments will experience setbacks due to the knowledge-vacuum it creates. The MindModeler tool can retain some of the knowledge and expertise possessed by these valuable experts and makes it available for use by others.

The expert models created with MindModeler have the capability to learn over time and accommodate new experiences as it become available. Thus an organizational memory is created that passes the judgment of retirees down to their replacements, and continues to adapt to changing circumstances.

The MindModeler transforms sparse qualitative data into robust mathematical models. There is a simple GUI which allows interaction with the system. Alternatively the engine of the system can be connected to existing software systems to allow smart decision-making.

We request the opportunity to demonstrate the viability of the MindModeler system at your organization. We believe the value of this tool will be readily apparent once it is seen in action.
